AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL OPERATING EFFICIENCIES
TTN’S FAA Air Traffic Control Tower (ATCT) is fully operational between 6:00 AM and 10:00 PM.
Aircraft operating into TTN would not be subjected to PHL or EWR air traffic management initiatives (including Ground Delay Programs, Expect Departure Clearance Time programs, etc.). Even when arrival delay programs are in place at PHL and EWR, arrival to TTN would not be affected.
Due to light traffic densities, TTN’s ATCT has much greater operational flexibility. Air Traffic Controllers often allow opposite direction arrivals and departures, pilot preferred runway arrivals/departures and rolling take-off’s. Vectoring patterns for arrivals to TTN are greatly reduced due to the lack of congestion compared with the airspace of other commercial service airports.
All taxiways are relatively close to the airport terminal facility. With TTN’s light density ground operations, any runway end can be easily reached within a maximum of two (2) minutes.
The ATCT is currently configured with D-Brite, Flight Data Input/Output (FDIO), Automated Surface Observation System (ASOS) and an Automated Terminal Information System (ATIS).
The Airport has an Automated Surface Observation System (ASOS). All TTN Air Traffic Controllers are certified LAWRS weather observers and can function as a backup to ASOS in case of a system malfunction. Airport snow removal teams are augmented with personnel and equipment from the Department of Transportation’s highway division during snow emergencies.
